Tesla Launches Official Frunk Cooler for Model Y: Price, Compatibility and Everything You Need to Know

Tesla now sells a new version of its official Model Y cooler for newer Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive vehicles. It gives owners a fitted place to carry groceries, drinks or camping supplies in the front trunk.

The new Tesla frunk cooler costs $245 in Tesla’s online store. It sits in the front trunk, so cold food and drinks stay away from luggage and the passenger cabin.

There is one catch. Tesla now sells two coolers that look much the same but have different dimensions and fit different Model Y variants. Owners need to check which one matches their car before ordering.

Tesla cooler price and capacity

Tesla lists the standard Model Y version at $245. It measures 27.2 inches long, 16.8 inches wide and 13.5 inches high. The cooler holds 38.86 quarts and weighs 18.81 pounds when empty.

The larger cooler for the Model Y Premium and Performance costs $275. Its dimensions are 29.8 by 17.4 by 11.5 inches. It holds 42 quarts and weighs 22 pounds empty.

The $30 Tesla cooler price difference gets buyers a little more capacity. It does not make the larger model an upgrade for every car, since each cooler is shaped for a different Model Y frunk.

Tesla says both versions use lightweight materials and enough insulation to keep food cold and ice frozen for days. These are passive coolers, not powered refrigerators. Owners still need ice or reusable cold packs.

That is worth knowing if you are searching for a Tesla Model Y cooler. The fitted design is the selling point, not plug-in refrigeration.

Which Model Y does each cooler fit?

The $245 Model Y cooler is listed for Model Y vehicles built in 2025 or later. Tesla treats it as a separate product from the version labeled “Model Y Premium and Performance.”

Tesla says the $275 cooler fits Model Y Premium and Performance vehicles built in 2025 or later. It also fits earlier Model Y vehicles produced from February 16, 2020, through February 23, 2025.

Model year alone is not enough to confirm compatibility. Trim and production date affect the shape of the frunk. Tesla asks shoppers to sign in with the account linked to their vehicle, which should help flag an incompatible order. Buyers should still check that the correct car appears in the account.

The sensible move is to choose a cooler while signed in to Tesla’s shop. If the store says a vehicle identification number is not eligible, do not assume the other version will fit without checking with Tesla.

Why a fitted frunk cooler makes sense

A generic cooler can fit in a Model Y, but it may slide around or waste space. Tesla shaped this cooler for the frunk, making better use of a compartment that many owners do not use every day.

On a road trip, drinks can stay separate from clothes and electronics if ice starts to melt. Campers can keep the rear cargo area free for other gear, while grocery runs are less likely to leave chilled or leaking items in the cabin.

The cooler also makes use of a familiar EV feature. With no gasoline engine under the hood, the Model Y has room for purpose-built Tesla Model Y accessories in the front storage compartment.

The fitted shape comes at a price. Many regular soft coolers cost less, and this one will become much heavier once it is packed with ice, bottles and food. Owners may also have to lift the loaded cooler out of the frunk to drain or clean it.

Availability may be the immediate problem

Tesla’s U.S. shop showed the Model Y cooler as out of stock when the listing was checked. Shoppers could request an email when it returns. Stock may change quickly and can differ by region.

The choice comes down to fit. The $245 Tesla cooler is for newer base Model Y vehicles. The $275 version covers current Premium and Performance models, along with the earlier cars listed by Tesla.

This is a simple accessory, but the custom shape is useful for owners who regularly carry groceries, cold drinks or camping supplies. Whether it is worth the price depends mostly on how often that otherwise empty frunk space would hold a cooler.
